Lui Che Woo

Lui Che Woo’s fortune shot up by $5 billion in the past year as gambling revenue continued to grow at a double-digit pace in the world’s largest casino market, Macau, driving shares in his Galaxy Entertainment to an all-time high. He opened his biggest casino project, the Galaxy Macau, on the Cotai Strip in May 2011, with the second phase slated for completion in 2015. His vice-chairman and eldest son, Francis Lui, 56, manages the gambling side of the family business. He established his first company in the 1950s, buying construction equipment from Japan and reselling it in Southeast Asia. He made his original fortune through property developer K. Wah International and San Francisco’s Stanford Hotels, before winning one of six coveted Macau gaming licenses.
